Freedom Defense Training offers comprehensive Active Threat Training for school staff, based on the national standard of Avoid, Deny, Defend. Our training programs are designed to equip educators and school staff with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively respond to active threats, ensuring the safety and security of students and staff alike.
Course Overview:
1. Avoidance of an Active Threat: Our training begins with teaching the principles of avoiding an active threat. This includes:
Situational Awareness: Understanding and recognizing potential threats before they escalate.
Strategic Pre-Planning: Developing and implementing proactive plans to prepare for possible threat scenarios.
Setting Up for Success: Creating an environment that enhances the ability to avoid and survive active threats, thereby reducing the risk of mass casualties.
2. Deny Entry to the Threat: Participants will learn tactics to deny access to intruders, including:
Lockdown Procedures: How to effectively secure classrooms and other areas.
Barricading Techniques: Utilizing furniture and other objects to block entry points.
Communication Strategies: Keeping students calm and informed during a lockdown.
3. Defending Against the Threat: In situations where avoidance and denial are not possible, staff will be trained in:
Basic Defense Tactics: Techniques for defending oneself and others if confronted by an intruder.
Improvised Weapons: Identifying and using everyday objects for self-defense.
4. 911 Procedures: Understanding how to effectively communicate with emergency services is critical. Our training covers:
Making the Call: What information to provide to 911 operators.
Staying Calm: Techniques for maintaining composure during a crisis call.
Follow-Up: Key details to share with law enforcement upon their arrival.
5. Interaction with Law Enforcement: Our program includes guidance on how to interact with responding officers:
Identifying Yourself: Properly identifying oneself to law enforcement to avoid confusion.
Following Instructions: Understanding and following the directives of law enforcement officers.
Post-Incident Procedures: What to expect during the law enforcement response and how to assist in their effort.
6. Bleeding Control Training: In the event of a serious injury, knowing how to control bleeding can save lives.
Hands-On Practice: Learn how to use tourniquets, pressure bandages, and other first aid techniques to control severe bleeding.
Trauma Response: Understanding the critical steps to take in the first moments of a trauma incident, ensuring victims receive care quickly and effectively.
